Local leadership is key to sustainable water management and the conservation of high Andean ecosystems. For this reason, Aquafondo, in co-organization with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (COSUDE), promoted the Seedbed of Leaders in Nature-based Solutions (SbN) Program, which culminated successfully after a year of implementation in Matucana and San Mateo (Huarochirí).
+40 leaders
formed from 7 communities.
95 academic hours per district
in training, workshops, technical assistance and internships.
34 SbN project proposals
aimed at conserving ecosystems and guaranteeing water security in Lima and Callao.
Afforestation of +100 hectares.
Technified irrigation systems for efficient use of the resource.
Construction and rehabilitation of qochas and infiltration ditches (planting and water harvesting).
Conservation of wetlands and terraces for water regulation and sustainable productivity.
We transfer our intervention model through a comprehensive process that combines diagnosis, training, technical assistance, internships, BDS projects with metrics and a sustainable roadmap for management and financing.

The program left a solid foundation: active local networks, expanded water awareness and 34 projects ready for funding management. The next step is to take them to implementation and replicate them in more communities in Huarochirí.
