At Aquafondo, we reaffirm our commitment to water security in Lima by renewing the Framework Agreement for Interinstitutional Cooperation with the Autoridad Nacional del Agua (ANA), the governing body of Peru’s National Water Resources Management System.
This strategic alliance strengthens joint efforts in the Chillón, Rímac, and Lurín river basins.

A strategic alliance with the public sector

Mariella Sánchez Guerra, Executive Director of Aquafondo, and Walter Arana, General Manager of the Autoridad Nacional del Agua (ANA) representing the institution’s leadership, signed the agreement that consolidates Aquafondo as a strategic ally of the public sector in integrated water resources management across the three river basins that supply Peru’s capital.

This agreement is not an endpoint—it is the renewal of a commitment that is already generating tangible results on the ground and laying the foundation for continuing to expand the technical evidence the country needs to make better decisions about water.

What will we promote together in 2026?

Within the framework of this agreement and throughout this year, Aquafondo and the Autoridad Nacional del Agua (ANA) will work in coordination to:

  • Promote a culture of water stewardship among citizens, communities, and decision-makers.
  • Share technical knowledge related to the Chillón, Rímac, and Lurín river basins.
  • Strengthen coordination among public, private, and civil society stakeholders involved in water management.
  • Promote spaces for dialogue on the impact of Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) and climate change adaptation measures.

Lima depends on the water from its river basins. Strengthening their integrated management is not only an environmental commitment—it is an essential condition for the water security of millions of people.
This renewed agreement is a clear sign that this work, carried out with technical rigor and key partners, continues to move forward.
