With the participation of professionals and scholarship recipients from Peru, Chile, and Argentina, the virtual course “Sustainable Water Resources Management in Chile and Peru” officially began. This initiative, promoted by Aquafondo and the Universidad Católica de la Santísima Concepción (UCSC), aims to strengthen capacities to address the challenges of water security and climate change across the region.

The course brings together specialists from various disciplines, environmental professionals, researchers, and stakeholders involved in water management. Through four modules, participants will explore topics related to water resources, climate change, risk management, Nature-Based Solutions, governance, and conflict prevention.

During the opening ceremony, Florence Tellier, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences at the UCSC, highlighted the value of collaboration between both countries and the importance of sharing experiences in response to common challenges. “Chile and Peru share concerns related to water scarcity, and we have much to learn from the management approaches developed in both territories,” she noted.

For his part, Yván López, Head of Planning, Monitoring, and Project Support at Aquafondo, highlighted that this partnership represents an opportunity to promote interdisciplinary learning spaces focused on collective action.“Talking about sustainable water management means talking about a shared challenge, shaped by climate change, the growing demand for water resources, and the need to build sustainable solutions across different sectors and disciplines,” he stated.

The first session focused on the challenges of sustainable water resources management and climate change.
During the module, topics such as water security, water availability, integrated watershed management, and climate change and its impacts were addressed.

The course also created a valuable space for exchange among participants, who shared experiences related to environmental management, ecosystem conservation, community development, and public policy across different regions of Peru and Chile.

Through this initiative, Aquafondo and the Universidad Católica de la Santísima Concepción (UCSC) reaffirm our commitment to strengthening capacities and fostering regional collaboration to advance sustainable water management and promote the exchange of knowledge and experiences in response to the water challenges facing Latin America.
