When we assumed the presidency of the Peruvian Water Partnership-GWP Peru for the period 2024–2026, we did so with the conviction that networks make sense when the parties listen to each other and unite for a common purpose: to contribute to the integrated management of water resources. In a country where the water crisis marks our daily agenda, having a multi-sector platform was not only a challenge for the network, it was an urgent necessity.
During these two years, we have promoted a participatory agenda that renews the commitment to the integrated management of the country’s water resources (IWRM). We organized national forums that brought together specialists and members of the network to reflect on issues of freshwater ecosystems, climate change, water security and public policies. We developed an exclusive newsletter for the network, with five editions that collect the progress of its members, who work every day to consolidate the country’s IWRM from different territories.
Each of these achievements is the result of a joint effort that transcends Aquafondo. As the presiding entity, we have assumed a transparent and responsible administration, reporting our progress to GWP South America in a timely manner, but the true protagonists have been the more than 60 members who participated in meetings, shared information, contributed ideas and strengthened the collective vision of the network.
Today, GWP Peru is moving forward with firmer foundations, a clear agenda and a renewed spirit of articulation. From Aquafondo, we continue to promote this task with one certainty: water security is only possible if we continue working together. What we have built in these years demonstrates that, when collaboration is found on all fronts, water governance becomes an opportunity to transform our future.
